Our Goal

Our Goal

Our goal is to contribute to improving the living standards of the vulnerable communities of eastern Uganda through community mobilization, promoting the culture of seeking the kingdom of God, capacity building, advocacy & strengthening of groups at the grass-root level.

Our Target groups

Our Target groups

YAWE basically works mainly with the less privileged in social and economic endeavors in rural and parry-urban eastern Uganda. Its target groups include women and the youth, the youth alone constitutes over 80 percent of the Ugandan population according to the recently conducted census.

Amongst these, we lookout for communities where the majority are still living in devastating conditions and deprived of the very basic necessities of life. In the future, YAWE desires to include the urban populace living in slums and other such areas that can potentially benefit from its poverty alleviating programs and projects.

Our Approach

Our Approach

Approach Influenced by the new development paradigm, which puts people before things, YAWE follows a participatory approach in every sphere of its work; the traditional knowledge of the members in the groups formed in the communities is valued and respected, and there is the confidence that these people are capable of self-reliance and sustainability, on a practical level, therefore, the fundamental thrust of this approach is decentralization and empowerment.

We believe that for the community to be able to work for its own development and reduce its dependency on outside assistance there is a need for full involvement at all stages of the development cycle. The participation of community members in the identification of opportunities and problems affecting them, planning potential solution projects, management of these projects, implementation and evaluation of the projects is a key factor in YAWE’s work both internally and externally; Internally the participatory approach is adopted in
Youth & Women Empowerment (YAWE) Profile.

Managing the affairs of the organization, externally the process of social mobilization and economic development, a participatory, self-help, self-sustainable approach is adopted through community involvement and formation of locally managed groups.
